New Year and welcome 2017! How’s your year going so far?
Now
that we’re on another cycle around the sun, here are some of the highlights of the
things that you need to know about this New Year for a headstart of what’s to
come.
2017 is the year of the Fire Rooster
The
Rooster Year will officially begin on Chinese New Year which will be on January
28, 2017. Cheers to the Rooster babies! (me lol)
Chicken
is the 10th among the 12 zodiac animal signs.
Chinese
Horoscope calendar says that 2017 is the Female Fire Chicken year.
Greenery is Pantone’s color of the year
2017’s color of the year has been announced by Pantone
early in December and it is Greenery (PANTONE 15-0343). The color has been
described as “symbolic of new beginnings.” A perfect description for the New
Year which is the season of new beginnings.
Last year’s color of the year was the blend of Rose
Quartz and Serenity which was the first time for Pantone to choose two colors
for one year. For 2017, let’s expect a lot of greens!
International Year of
Sustainable Tourism for Development
During the United Nations 70th General Assembly, 2017 has
been tagged as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development
(A/RES/70/193).
It aims to raise awareness on the effect of sustainable
tourism in development towards positive change.
UN’s International Year of Sustainable Tourism for
Development targets five key areas namely:
-Inclusive and sustainable economic growth
-Social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction
-Resource efficiency, environmental protection and climate change
-Cultural values, diversity and heritage
-Mutual understanding, peace and security.

Few dates to mark:
January 31, 2016 – Has been reported to be the date for the Miss Universe
2016 Coronation in Manila. After 22 years, the Philippines will be hosting the
pageant again, this serves as an additional milestone for the country with Pia
Wurtzbach as Miss Universe 2015.
The country, according to reports, last hosted Miss
Universe in 1994 with Sushmita Sen of India crowned as winner. First hosting of
the pageant was back in 1974.
Binibining Pilipinas Universe Maxine Medina will be the
country’s representative in the pageant.
April 4, 2017 – Coldplay concert in Manila! One of the most awaited and
most talked about concert for the year. The band is currently on a world tour,
other countries include Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan.
This event is both
exciting and heartbreaking for Coldplay fans since tickets were sold out
immediately after they went on sale.
